Des Moines Legatus Chapter Leadership Series
Presented by Franciscan University and SENT Ventures
Here at Franciscan University and SENT Ventures, we are driven by a single goal; to set forth joyful disciples. Our decision-making process is informed by the gospel and partnered with dynamic leadership and faith formation. We strive to build authentic accompaniment and provide opportunities for leaders to build community and a deeper spiritual interior life.
At the end of the program, the candidates will achieve in the following learning outcomes:
With the accompaniment of Franciscan University and Legatus mentors, define and apply their MCODE Assessment outcomes to leadership challenges.
Have encountered the love of Jesus and the Catholic Church through deepening the interior Life as the foundation for mission.
Be inspired and informed to a new level of personal leadership by integrating their faith with all facets of their lives.
Engage church doctrine and leadership curriculum to develop a personal and lived spirituality of work.
Candidates will collaborate with Legatus mentors to define a personal challenge to build a plan of action steps for personal spiritual and professional growth.

Mentor Responsibilities and Information

Preparation
1.Session materials are listed by date on the website.
2.Each mentee will have an MCODE assessment to share for a conversation starter.
3. A (LED) Learning, Engagement, and Delivery sheet is provided to guide the learning.
4. Meet with your mentee between sessions.
5. Coach the mentee as they prepare for their session facilitation.

Spiritual Renewal
1. Pray together.
2. Set time aside to share and discuss the scriptural suggestions.
3. Discuss with the mentee their current prayer life and how they may use the readings provided to make a plan.


Continue the Accompaniment
1. Participants are encouraged to stay engaged as a cohort and with facilitators.
2. Mentors can keep the momentum by engaging with mentees, returning for a fall virtual meet and greet, and joining in a session with cohort 2.
MENTEE SECTION
Committing to an intentional prayer life: Suggestions for beginning the Journey
Throughout this program, we ask that you begin to develop new habits or commit to current practices of prayer with intention. We encourage you to share with your mentor your personal prayer schedule.
FOSTERING A PURPOSEFUL INTERIOR PRAYER LIFE
Attend Mass on Sundays and discern attending Daily Mass at least some days of the week.
Encouraged (but not required) to receive Sacrament of Reconciliation each month in preparation for each session
COURSE EXPECTATIONS
3-4 hrs of reading, listening, viewing in preparation for each session theme
With the help of your mentor, build a personal spirituality and leadership plan.
LEADING A STRATEGY SESSION
Each session, one mentee will lead a “strategy session” to get support feedback on a major challenge, problem, or idea. Please review How to Prepare and Lead a Strategy Session for your Legatus Group.
LEGATUS PRESENTATION
We hope to have each mentee make a presentation on their experience to the Legatus chapter at the end of the experience. Further details to come.
Each person presents for 3-5 minute speech on a specific leadership insight from the experience.

Mr. John Cannon
SENT Ventures
John Cannon is the founder of SENT Ventures, a social venture that fuels Catholic entrepreneurs to address today's pressing human and spiritual needs through an integration of business, personal, and spiritual means. Mr. Cannon has experience in management consulting, investment banking, start-ups, and non-profit organizations. He is a former Policy Advisor to the Governor of Alabama and also spent seven years in a monastic life of prayer and ministry as a Carmelite friar, before discerning a call to serve and develop Catholic entrepreneurs. He received a BA and BBA from the University of Notre Dame, an MSc in Politics & IR from Oxford University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MA in Philosophy from Mount Angel Seminary and an MA in Theology from Franciscan University Steubenville. He currently resides in Washington, D.C.
Director of Franciscan University Catholic Leadership
Tiffany Boury, Ph.D., is the Director of the newly launched Master in Catholic Leadership Graduate degree. This innovative graduate program is the first for Franciscan University to offer a cohort model. Fully online the program serves both domestic and international leaders. While continuing her teaching responsibilities as an Associate professor, her research is in international education, civic, and school leadership. She has led Franciscan University in establishing international educational partnerships in Kowloon, Hong Kong, and Erbil, Iraq. In 2017, she was named the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award from Franciscan University and 2020 the Excellence in Service Award. She is a Board member for the Aim Women's Crisis Pregnancy Center and consultant to MarQardakh school in Erbil. Iraq.
